Reformat Donation Date Field In Exported Data - NOT Currently Readable as Date by Excel
complete

The date fields in exported data are not formatted so that Excel can read them as dates. This is REALLY problematic. The imported data cannot be sorted by date without us having to parse ALL the donation_date cells into two separate fields, reformat them as date and time. Surely you can split your own date and time into separate fields, so when we import it, we don't have to.
EXAMPLE: Jul 17 2020 3:25PM EDT
This becomes a Text Field in Excel.

We are excited to let you know that your suggestion has been implemented! Thank you again for collaborating directly with us to build better fundraising tech.
Your suggestion was a part of the new report release, "Line Items (All)" now found in the Nonprofit Admin Portal, under "Data Reports" in the left-hand navigation. The other Canny suggestions below were also part of this update if you want to check them out:

Hi everyone!
We are excited to seek volunteers interested in an early-access beta program of upgrades to the donor data reporting system in our Nonprofit Admin Portal. The program offers our member nonprofits a sneak peek of our newest features in return for constructive feedback that will help us refine functionality before its full release.
Our upgraded reporting system includes the following:
1) On-Screen Line Item Report
A primary report/table of donation/purchase line items across all fundraising products (Core Profile, Campaign Pages, Peer-to-Peer Fundraising and Team Fundraising pages, Event Ticketing pages and donations received through Charity Navigator’s Giving Basket).
- The report can be filtered by date and searched by Order ID, Donor Name and Donor Email.
- Clicking on an individual result provides expanded donor and payment information, eliminating the need to download CSVs.
2) Updated Donor Data CSV
A new and enhanced CSV export of donor data. Anyone who has received donations through Charity Navigator’s Giving Basket will be familiar with the data format of this new CSV. We are eager to expand it platform-wide.
- During the beta period, we will support both old and new versions of the CSV export, but we will sunset the old CSV by early 2024.
- The new CSV has all historical data, but is reframed with new column headers. An online guide is available to assist mapping from the old CSV columns to the new ones.
- We provide new information, such as much-requested Transaction Fee Amount (charged by PayPal and Stripe) and Net Amount columns.
- We address date-column issues (they were not Excel-friendly) and other quality of life updates.
We anticipate that participants in this beta program will help shape our efforts with this new system. If you are interested in joining, please like this comment and we will email you in the coming weeks. Participation in this beta will not affect your current Give Lively experience, but it will hopefully give you early access to a better one! :)

Matt Connelly: Any ETA for this? We are all going into our busiest time of year and this change would be very helpful sooner than later.
Matt Connelly
Andy Phillips: Hi Andrew--we're still discussing this time period a bit internally, but it's looking more likely that we will start offering a more robust CSV that also solves this date issue starting within October. We hope to announce something more formally soon.

Hi Andrew, just wanted to give you an update that we're closer to formalizing a beta group for these updated/improved reports but still need a few weeks to finish up some remaining work--but we're quite close. I'll follow up in a couple weeks.
Matt Connelly
Hi everyone--we're working on significant updates to our report structure, and this issue will be addressed as part of that. Thank you for hanging in there. I'm aiming to share more news in the coming weeks.

This is a CONTINUING issue that is now a year old, with no response. It should a simple code change on your side, to create separate date and time fields. PLEASE... this issue creates un-necessary added work for users.

Has there been any progress in this? I don't really want to go through each and every line in a csv or excel to convert the date and remove the timestamp. Right now there is no way to edit the cells to reflect mm/dd/yyy or any other kind of format.
Kate Hibbert
Julie Newman: It looks like this is being worked on, but in the meantime...
To speed up the edits, I have been using Find and Replace on the whole column, for example:
Find: "Jul "
Replace with: "7/"
Find: " 2020"
Replace with: "/2020"
Note that including spaces in the find is important.
Then you can use the Text function to convert to whichever date format: TEXT(A2, "YYYY-MM-DD")
